When I right click on an .gif in solution explorer, I don't get the option to Optimize the image, its greyed out.
If I right click on a folder and click "Optimize images" - the output window reports "No PNG or JPG images in selected folder(s)".
If it's an .png or .jpg file then I can choose the option "Optimize image" but the result is the same as above.

The data uri option via css stylesheet or by right clicking on the image is never available.

It only works in Web Applications.

luizbon has uploaded a patch.

Description:
I have made a simple change to make a try when downloading the optimized file.
In my project when I upload the file I optimize it and in the original way when it fails to download the optimized file it looses the original because it was downloading directly over the original.
The change is to download to a temp file and if success download the optimized file, it replace with the original.

Adds a right-click menu to any folder and image in Solution Explorer that let's you automatically optimize all PNG, GIF and JPEG files in that folder. The optimization doesn't effect the quality of the images, but optimizes them using industry proven algorithms for removing EXIF and other metadata. The extension uses SmushIt and PunyPNG for optimizing the images.
